Symbolism of the All Seeing Eye or (Eye of Providence)
I went to artist Brent Atwood in 2012 I handed him a crude sketch of a smiling sunshine with the words “Live With Light” written in its rays. I wanted it tattooed on my chest. He was kind to me and professional in his work. Definitely the type who stands for no-bullshit and can respect honest authenticity. I was such an innocent and trusting young girl, full of ambition and courage. Thinking back on it now, I can describe myself as a walking, talking, living version of The Fool tarot card.
I think he must have seen something in me, something that even I didn’t see at the time, because his intuition bled onto my design and transformed it. He came back with a gorgeous All Seeing Eye.
It was exactly what I wanted and yet didn't know how to describe. I was still learning symbolism at the time and was still putting the pieces together with the whole “gift of knowingness” and “divine knowledge” effecting my everyday life. I was definitely experiencing symtoms of ~spiritual awakening~ as I think most of us did in that time.
As I was being careless, open to growth in an almost childlike way, he provided me with a symbol of protection and wisdom, an ancient symbol representing the ownership of your awakening.
It was a mile marker of my burgeoning spiritual journey and an exchange of psychic energy that I will never forget.

The All Seeing Eye is one of the great spirit symbols of all time, most iconically known for sitting atop the pyramid on the dollar bill.
It’s depictions are seen throughout history and all around the world!
Middle East/Asia as the protecting blue evil eye & Hamsa
Egypt as the Eye of Horus/Ra.
Nepal where Buddha referred to it as the Eye of the World
India where the god Shiva has three eyes & the Third Eye chakra is acknowledged in Hinduism
It’s also found a home in American pop culture as the trademark of the occult worship of the Illuminati and the New World Order. Unfortunately we saw this same thing happen with the swatika (which once represented well being and good fortune). Spiritual symbols have been hijacked for political or malicious purposes and their meanings have become twisted or even flipped entirely to distract the masses from gaining more spiritual awareness and consciousness (a conspiracy for another blog post).
Although represented differently in each culture & perspective, the All Seeing Eye is historically consistent because it is a representation of something deeply embedded within the human psyche. An instinctual connection of sorts.
Canadian psychologist and author Jordan Peterson talks about the significance of the All Seeing Eye atop the pyramid. He says it represents a hierarchy and our ability to move up the hierarchy to the point where we are no longer attached to it. We develop the ability to move around in and observe other hierarchies. If you’ve studied anything about “ascencion” or "dissolving of ego" in the New Age world, this may sound pretty familiar!
According to Peterson, the symbol ultimately represents our ability to develop attention. Attention allows us to then control or manipulate a situation. Doesn't this sound a lot like the Quantum Observer Effect in physics? Observation (attention) can affect the outcome of macroscopic events. You, me, the device you're reading this on and everything around us is made of microscopic particles! So wouldn't this mean that our ability to really look and see something could allow us to manipulate it to a degree? After all, our perception is reality!
The All Seeing Eye is also known as the Eye of Providence. It is said to represent the Divine Eye of God watching over humanity. I think this has an air of responsibility to it that we can shine onto our everyday lives. Take ownership for your awareness, your choices and your ability to work up the hierarchy.
To me personally, I perceive this eye as my protector. It is a symbol of power, potential, wisdom and compassion. It is a symbol challenging anyone who sees it to reflect with me, connect with me and witness us both grow.
As Wayne Dyer once said “Change The Way You Look At Things And The Things You Look At Change”.
I hope you enjoyed this post. Let me know if you want me to talk more about symbols.
