Hemwick "Involuntary Earthing"
Hemwick is a progressive metal band featuring Riachle Child (drums), Jaxon Harrop (guitar), Alec Stanczyk (guitar) and Matt Baird (bass). This instrumental unit is unapologetically loud, thrashy and elaborate. They operate like machinery, each moving part running separately yet in sync to create the overall apparatus.
The first time I heard their music I immediately said aloud, “I want this band to play at my funeral.” upon sharing this realization to guitar player Jaxon, he smiled and said sweetly, “Okay, maybe we could play quietly.”
Metal in Ogden is scarce these days. I think many currently active metal bands are still “in the closet” since Mojo's shut down. But times are changing. Hemwick seems to be leading an army of emerging metal in Ogden, gathering a steady following and gaining new ears as they assemble. I'm glad these dudes are leading the pack, they're not shy and easily command a stage.
Their first E.P Involuntary Earthing lives up to it's name. Their writhing, twisting roots go deep and seem to have a forbidden energy to them... to summon this entity & have it emerge under the moonlight does not happen without some type of conjuring. As driving and heavy as their music is, it's easy to get lost in the midst of their organized chaos and fall into an almost trance like state.
They are equal parts devastating as they are beautifully fascinating and they take their music seriously. It's clear to see in their online presence, recorded material and in live performances that these guys are the real deal. Enjoy Involuntary Earthing when indulging in blood orgies, seances, and rolling up to a house party lit af like you're riding atop a Minotaur of Doom.
Listen to Involuntary Earthing here or pick up a copy at Lavender Vinyl, (they have tee-shirts available too - hell yeah!) and witness them live December 2nd with Machines of Man, Liar's Tongue, and LIFEHOLD at Kamikazes Ogden.
